Before the First World War, Sir Everard Dominey (Edmund Lowe), a drunken upper-class Englishman, encounters an old acquaintance the sinister German arms dealer Baron Leopold von Ragostein (also Edmund Lowe) in Africa. Von Ragostein plans to kill his doppelganger and take his place in British high society where he will be able to further his arms business and spy on Britain for the German Empire.

When "Dominey" returns to London, he encounters the German aristocrat Stephanie Elderstrom (Wera Engels) who is certain she recognizes him as her former lover, von Ragostein. When he reaches Donimey Hall, Dominey's wife (Valerie Hobson) is equally certain that it is her genuine husband returning from Africa at long-last. Gradually, doubts begin to emerge whether it is the real Dominey who has come home.

"The supreme spy adventure!"

Very few prints of the 1935 THE GREAT IMPERSONATION exist. After an extensive search we found what we believe to be the best surviving elements. We are pleased to make this available here on DVD. The quality is not great – and one should not expect state-of-the-art re-mastered quality - but it is a treasure for those who truly wish to see this wonderful double-duty Edmund Lowe WWI espionage thriller!
