Disraeli 1929 DVD (Region 1 - Playable in North America - The US, Canada, Mexico, etc.) B&W
Starring: George Arliss, Doris Lloyd, David Torrence, Joan Bennett, Florence Arliss. Written by De Leon Anthony, Julien Josephson, Louis N. Parker. Directed by Alfred E. Green
British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli (George Arliss) is intent on buying the Suez Canal. If realized, the purchase would complete the British Indian Empire, but he is opposed in Parliament by the Liberals. Denied funding, Disraeli enlists the help of Lord Charles Deeford (Anthony Bushell) and the lovely Lady Clarissa Pevensey (Joan Bennett). Together, they scramble to find alternate funding before the Russians, who are also interested in the canal, beat them to it.
*Very few prints of Disraeli exist. After an extensive search we found what we believe to be the best surviving elements. We are pleased to make this available here on DVD. The quality is very good, but not great – and one should not expect state-of-the-art re-mastered quality (it may have a logo occasionally) - but it is a treasure for those who truly wish to see this wonderful example of an early 1929 talkie biopic about this great British statesman.
